About the Aircraft

The US F8 Crusader was the first supersonic carrier-based fighter in the world. The maiden flight was in 1955, and the operation had been started in 1957. The F8 Crusader was powered by one engine with 18,000 lbs. of afterburning thrust equipped on the aircraft with a high- wing swept wing design. The main wing had a special mechanism to up the front 7 degrees. This slight operation succeeded in shortening the distance of the takeoff and landing. The F8 Crusader was able to demonstrate excellent performance as a carrier-based fighter. The F-8 Crusader also participated in the Vietnam War and was active against the MiG fighter of the North Vietnamese Army.
