【About the F-104J Starfighter “EIKO”】
The supersonic fighter F-104, operated by the U.S. Air Force since the mid-1950s, remained limited in numbers in its home country. However, in Europe, Canada, and Japan, a significant number of F-104s were operated through modifications and upgrades tailored to the specific needs of each country or region.
The F-104J was introduced in Japan based on the G-type used by NATO countries. It had its inertial navigation system and bombing capabilities removed while enhancing its all-weather interception capabilities. The F-104J was deployed from the early 1960s, with a total of 230 aircraft, including 20 two-seater variants, protecting the Japanese airspace.
Unit operations ceased in 1986, but some aircraft were modified into unmanned target drones and operated until 1997.
The F-104J was the first aircraft independently adopted by Japan and marked a groundbreaking milestone as the first supersonic aircraft in the Japanese Self-Defense Forces.
【About the Kit】
■This 1/144 scale plastic model assembly kit reproduces the JASDF's F-104J fighter.
■The parts are made by F-Toys, which are easy to assemble, and come in a set for two aircraft.
■The sharp silhouette is faithfully reproduced at a total length of approximately 110mm.
■The markings include the F-104J from the last flight of the 6th Air Wing, 205th Squadron dissolution in June 1981 (46-6639), and the F-104J from the Gifu Base, Air Experiment Group (46-8611).
■The decals are of high quality, silk-screen printing by Cartograf.
